Inspired by the emergence of new bike lanes, including Dallas’ very own Harwood lane and future Richardson projects, we launched a new bike-lane buffer. We used our CNC router to create a wooden prototype, and we’re designing it for rapid deployment with corten steel. The buffers can be built into optional self-watering planters or act as a flat packable-barrier with a drainage system. It has a weighted base and can be bolted to the concrete. Our goal was to move away from using thin plastic and pvcs as delineators because they do very little to improve the perception of safety and separation of humans and cars.
We’re looking forward to seeing these buffers implemented in future projects, keeping our streets human-centered and our cyclists safer.
