Mosman Park Better Block
Building a new public space with young people for young people,
powered by RAC, Town Team Movement, the Town of Mosman Park, and the Better Block
Opening May 6, 2023
A youth-led transformation is headed to Mosman Park and we want YOU. The goal is to work with local young people to reimagine the public space near the Alf Adams Pavilion focusing on the skate park, basketball court and car park - and use placemaking turn it into a vibrant place where young people can connect and host things like events, workshops, pop-up shops, and performances.
To get there we need people aged 16 to 24 who are into marketing, like organising vendors, programming events, and know how to swing a hammer and don’t mind getting a little paint on their shoes. There’s also plenty of opportunities for local people and businesses to get involved too. Here’s how:

We’re calling for young people to lead this change through a series of workshops.

-
Event and activation planning on Sat 18 Mar
-
Build and transform workshops held Tuesday 2 May to Friday 5 May
-
Big reveal and launch party on Saturday 6 May, 1-4 pm
If you’re aged 16-24 and would like to join us for one or all of these sessions, REGISTER NOW!
If you’re interested in offering a few hours of your time to help young people complete this build or if you’re a vendor or entertainer keen to get involved, we’d love a helping hand.
Meet a few of the folks working with you to bring this initiative to life.
ABOUT
THE INITIATIVE
Placemaking With Young People- From America to Australia
Reclaimed space designed to bring people together.
RAC is providing an avenue for young people to work with local organizations and stakeholders to lead positive community change in a way that is relevant to them and RAC’s vision for a safer, more sustainable and connected community. Importantly, the program provides opportunities for young people to build local networks, gain valuable work experience, learn new skills and be recognized for their efforts.
Town Team Movement is building a movement of positive doers. We work with people of ages and help them to connect, organise and act to improve their local area. There are 116 community-led Town Teams so far, with over 100 in Western Australia. We'll be working with the project partners, young people in the area and volunteers to help make this project come to life!.
And Better Block aims to work with neighbors to show them they have the tools, resources, and knowledge to make the changes they want to see. We provide a bit of guidance from our experiences around the world. Potential enhancements for this engagement could include Wikiblock builds, murals, and skate and basketball court enhancements. Only time (and you!) will tell!
