New Kensington Better Block
What Happens After the Kickoff?
The Valley Points Family YMCA is offering local organizations the chance to creatively 'take over' the newly revitalized space for hosting their own unique community-focused event between September 22 and October 20.
The YMCA will provide the revitalized area, including a stage and vendor space, and organizations will then have the freedom to design and organize their own event. It's a great opportunity for our community partners to engage with the community in a newly vibrant and flexible environment.
If you're interested in scheduling for one of these later dates, please feel out the vendor form below!
Together with the community, The Better Block Foundation, Valley Points Family YMCA, Penn State New Kensington, and the Richard King Mellon Foundation collaboratively re-envisioned the possibilities and connections to the YMCA. This temporary demonstration, which took place on September 21, transformed the space at 852 Constitution Boulevard in New Kensington, PA.
The community-led placemaking event aimed to inspire residents to creatively activate the space next to the YMCA and imagine what it could look like in the future. Enhancements included new seating, vibrant art installations, and opportunities for community gatherings.
The goal was to experiment with ideas, gather feedback, and integrate community input to help shape a more vibrant and welcoming YMCA. This effort created a dynamic environment where residents can come together, share experiences, and build a thriving community.
